PMMF warm up on WOAS-FM starts August 20th!
Ken Raisanen, Station Manager is excited to announce that WOAS-FM 88.5 FM will be on the air August 20 to 24 to help promote the Porcupine Mountains Music Festival. Ken said, "While WOAS-FM will not officially begin the fall broadcast schedule until September 4th, we wanted to put some of the PMMF artists on the air to help get everyone in the mood." Sign on will occur around noon and you can tune in Monday to Thursday until 10 PM or so. Tyler Moore and Eric Jazzman Smith indicated they will do an on-the-air stint during that period. With the festival opening up on Friday afternoon, we will sign on early, at 9 AM and only be on the air until Noon but we have a special treat in store for listeners. As a small thank-you for letting WOAS-FM follow the completion of her newest CD, WOAS-FM 88.5 will be playing only tracks from Lindsay Tomasic's CD "Paradise Road", her eponymous CD with the band Trees and cuts from her newly released solo work "What in the World". Tune in to WOAS-FM 88.5 for your PMMF warm up and be sure to catch our Lindsay Tomasic tribute on the Friday morning that the festival opens.
Please contact volunteer coordinators Sherrie McCabe and Karen Bradley if you are interested in volunteering.
We have expanded our Friday programming from its original 6 hours to 10 hours. This adds 5 additional sets of music to the schedule for a planned total of 33 sets on 2 stages over 3 days. In addition to these performances, additional workshops will be held inside the Chalet throughout the weekend and a special Children's Activity Tent will offer several activities.
Planning is underway for the 3rd Annual Porcupine Mountains Music Festival which will take place August 24th, 25th and 26th, 2007. Mark you calendars now and purchase your tickets early for maximum savings. Seth Bernard & Daisy May who performed at the first festival in 2005 will be returning in 2007. We are also excited to have Steppin In It closing the festival on Sunday. They hail from Lansing, Michigan and are a folk-rockin', sweet jazz, bluegrass, old-time swingin' quartet. We expect they'll be a great final treat for everyone who attends.
